The Blackjack Mountains are a mountain range located in Gila County, Arizona.[They have a maximum elevation of 6,942 ft (2,116 m) at Apache Peaks and a prominence of 2,580 ft (790 m). The peak has a topographic isolation of 17.88 miles (29 km), with the nearest higher peak lying to the south in the Pinal Mountains. The Blackjack mountains are located within the Tonto National Forest and are north of Globe, Arizona. The high point of the range, Apache Peaks, is ranked 36th in prominence for Arizona's most prominent peaks.

The Pinal Mountains are a mountain range located in Gila County, Arizona. They have a maximum elevation of 7,848 ft (2,392 m) at Pinal Peak and a prominence of over 4,000 ft (1,200 m). The closest city is the Globe/Miami, Arizona area, which is just a few miles north of the mountain range.  The mountains are covered with Ponderosa Pine and white fir and experience cooler weather than the Globe/Miami area, so that they are a popular recreation area in the summer.  In the fall the colors come alive with oak, evergreen pine, cotton woods and aspen trees.

The Sierra Ancha Wilderness is over 20,000 acres, and is a very special wilderness that includes precipitous box canyons, high cliffs, and pine-covered mountains.  Thousands of years ago it was home to the ancient Salado people.

This mountain range in south central Arizona, about 30–45 miles northeast of Phoenix. The origin of the name remains obscure but one possibility is that it is from the Aztec language meaning "place of the deer". The crest of the Mazatzals forms the county line between Maricopa County and Gila County. SR 87, the Beeline Highway, traverses the Mazatzals on its way to Payson. The highest peak is Mazatzal Peak at 7,903 feet (2,409 m). They also include the Four Peaks, with elevation 7,659 ft, 2,334; a prominent mountain landmark of the eastern Phoenix area.

Thought to be some of the most dramatic visitas in Arizona, Salt River Wilderness is awe inspiring.  Elevations range from 2,200 feet at the canyon's lower end to 4,200 feet on White Ledge Mountain.

The Mescal Mountains are a series of connected mountain ridges in southern Gila County, Arizona. Their highest point is El Capitan Mountain, which has an elevation of 6,568 ft ( 2,002 m) and a prominence of 1,828 ft (557 m). The highest point has a topographic isolation of 5.98 miles, with the nearest point of equal or greater elevation being to the north west in the Pinal Mountains. The mountain ridges are visible in the east from Arizona State Route 77 between globe and Winklman.  Great place fore OHV exploration.

Known for its lost mines and stories of the super-natural this area is starkly beautiful and often rugged, but can be inhospitable to those not equipped to meet nature on her own terms. Searing heat and lacking water it is very WILD.
